Three courses in Montepulciano aimed at artists and art lovers to learn or improve their technique in watercolor painting, drawing and clay modeling. These one-week courses are taught by Master Claudio Nicoli (www.fontetrusca.it). There will be 5 afternoon or evening sessions of 3 hours each.

Clay Modeling Course
The modeling course comprises a high degree of technical knowledge in terms of both materials and instruments. It also includes elements of the basic, artistic drawing course.
Clay, the basic material used, is highly malleable and allows for the most varied, three-dimensional expression of the human spirit.
Added to this is the magical alchemy by which the material is transformed, from the moment in which its worked through firing and painting. At the end of the course students will have the great satisfaction of holding the fruits of their labors in their hands as proof of a unique and absorbing experience.

Drawing Course
Drawing is fundamental to beginning any sort of artistic endeavor as well as being a quick and satisfying way of preserving the memory of a journey, a place or a person. This course offers the possibility to acquire or consolidate some of the fundamental drawing techniques that are indispensable in dealing with problems of proportion and perspective. Taking into account the abilities of each student, various aspects of drawing will be progressively studied, from copies of still lifes to life drawing.
Weather and schedules permitting, there will be some outdoor sessions of urban and landscape drawing.
Course Outline
Free-hand drawing with pencil, charcoal pencil, sanguine pencil and India ink.
Hatching and shading on white and colored paper applied to copies of still lifes, landscapes and urban views of progressive difficulty.
Euro 200.00 per person + Euro 15 for a work kit (soft and semi-soft pencils, charcoal pencil, sanguine pencil, ink pen, India ink, white, rough and smooth paper, and colored paper)
Watercolor Course
Of all the graphic arts, watercolor stands out for its lightness, luminosity and transparency.
The particular nature of the colors requires sure but gradual, if not minimal, strokes, but its rapidity of execution allows students to enjoy the fruits of their labors in a short period of time.
Watercolor is an incomparable technique for making quick records of a trip, which is aided by the fact that a small kit can easily be taken anywhere.
Course Outline
Classical technique of watercolor painting.
Modern watercolor techniques (oily surface, sponged, blown and airbrushed color, and retouching with India ink).
Copies from still lifes, landscapes and urban views of progressive difficulty.
