Ирис Ориго, американская интеллектуалка в Валь д'Орчии
The brilliant American writer and Italian history scholar Iris Origo (1902 - 1988) was married to count Antonio Origo. Together they bought La Foce (www.lafoce.com/index.php?vedi=contenuti&id=24&m=lafoce), an estate in the heart of Tuscany. She rose to the challenge of living in a culture and reality that was vastly different from her own, and in the process transformed an arid, meagre landscape into a blossoming agricultural community. The combination of early 20th century Tuscan farming culture and Iris Origo's sensitivity and intelligence has left a literary and landscape heritage of immense, universal value.
The "The Garden of Iris Origo" mini-courses are open to students who have attained an intermediate knowledge of the Italian language. The weekly courses are individual courses and can be started on any Monday. The two-day courses are held on fixed dates and require a minimum of three participants.
